Helping Hands
A group of Brisbane residents came together to create a grass roots all-volunteer community organization whose mission is to help residents "age in place" and stay connected to their community here in town. The Village provides a way for older residents who want to remain in their homes to request help, and for community volunteers to lend a hand. In other words, it’s really about neighbors helping neighbors.
Brisbane Village Helping Hands is one of more than 100 Villages across the country designed to help seniors stay in their homes. AARP research shows that 89 percent of Americans would like to live in their current homes as long as possible – and that rose to 95 percent when people over the age of 75 were asked the question.
We started small in March 2016 and have grown over time as more volunteers and older Brisbane residents have become aware of the Village and joined our efforts.
COVID-19
Due to COVID-19, for the health and safety of all our Village community, we want to ensure that receiving and providing services is as safe as possible for both Members and Volunteers. To that end, we are asking that Members and Volunteers who would like to be eligible to receive and/or provide BVHH services provide us with the following:
- Proof of complete vaccination and booster, which can be sent to us via email of US mail. If you don't have access to a means of copying and sending your vaccination card, please call (415 508-2185) or email ([email protected]) and one of our board members will be happy to come by your home and take a photo of it for our records.
- A signed and dated Brisbane Village Helping Hands Communicable Disease Waiver and Release. This form can be returned to us via email or US mail. If you don't have a means of printing out the Waiver, please call or email (see above) and we'll provide you with a hard copy.
